IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an English exam that measures English language proficiency to international standards and is widely used in education, careers and a range of international application processes.

The NYLA IELTS preparation programme is designed to develop the English skills needed for the Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking sections of the exam and to help students become more familiar with the exam format.

The programme is planned according to your current level of English, your target IELTS score and the time remaining until the exam.

What Is IELTS?

IELTS is an international English proficiency exam that measures your ability to use English in different communication settings.

The exam assesses four core language skills: Listening Reading Writing Speaking When preparing for IELTS, it is important not only to improve your level of English but also to understand the structure of the exam, its question types and its assessment criteria.

For this reason, alongside general English work, the IELTS preparation programme also includes exam-focused practice and strategies.

IELTS Exam Sections

  • IELTS Listening

The Listening section measures your ability to understand a variety of spoken and audio content.

During preparation, students work on understanding different speaking speeds and accents, picking out key information and identifying the correct answers while listening.

  • IELTS Reading

The Reading section contains questions that ask you to read a range of texts and understand the information and main ideas.

Alongside vocabulary and reading comprehension, the ability to analyse a text quickly and use your time effectively is also important in this section.

  • IELTS Writing

The Writing section assesses your ability to use written English in a structured and clear way.

The preparation programme aims to help students organise their ideas, use appropriate vocabulary and grammatical structures, and develop the writing skills required by the IELTS Writing tasks.

  • IELTS Speaking

The Speaking section assesses the candidate’s spoken communication skills in English.

The programme includes work on speaking about different topics, giving clearer and more structured answers to questions, actively using vocabulary and improving speaking fluency.

How Is the IELTS Preparation Programme Planned?

Every student’s IELTS goal is different. For this reason, rather than a one-size-fits-all preparation programme, it can be more effective to create a study plan based on your current situation.

When planning the programme, we may consider factors such as: Current level of English Target IELTS score Exam date Time remaining until the exam Current performance in the four skills The student’s strengths and areas for improvement Weekly study time and other similar factors.

For example, a student with strong Reading and Listening skills may need to place more emphasis on Writing or Speaking.
